A number of clinical studies have been carried out between 2007 - 2017 on patients with "watch and wait" cancers of the blood. The four collaborators involved in the studies include a Hospital Scientist/Trial co-ordinator, two Haematologists and an Endocrinologist:
Terry Golombick (PhD Dipl Nutr). Dr Golombick has had a lifetime interest in cancer, particularly cancers that form in the bone marrow and the blood. She received her PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1994. Her thesis reported on some of the mechanisms of growth of cancer cells. After many years spent doing laboratory research in a hospital environment, and the loss of a dear friend to chronic myeloid leukemia, she noted that patients were given little or no information on how to improve quality of life in order to fight the disease. After qualifying as a Nutritionist in Sydney, Australia, she embarked on a number of clinical studies with patients with “watch and wait” cancers of the blood. Her research has shown how certain supplements can improve certain markers of disease progression in the blood and bone marrow and improve immune function in some patients. A change in diet and lifestyle shows improved quality of life. Based on her research findings, Dr Golombick has compiled a website which she hopes will provide “watch and wait” blood cancer patients with the tools to manage their health in the best possible way to try and prevent disease progression.
Professor Terrence Diamond (MB BCh MRCP FRACP), is a senior Endocrinologist with a particular research interest in bone disorders.
Professor Arumugam Manoharan (MD FRACP FRCPA) is a clinical Haematologist with particular research interest in the treatment of patients with myeloproliferative disorders, immune thrombocytopenia and haematological malignancies (especially in elderly patients and those in the "watch and wait" category).
Rajeev Ramakrishna (BMed FRACP FRCPA) is a clinical Haematologist with an interest in low grade haematologic malignancies such as myeloma, amyloidosis, chronic leukemias, lymphomas and myelodysplasia. Other interests include thrombosis (DVT's, therapy and preventative measures).
